The latest murders by Islamist terrorists in Europe are but a harbinger of even worse violence yet to come. Nor will the attacks be confined to Europe. They are no doubt already on the way to Canada and the United States.People now alive and healthy will die or be maimed this year in North America, the victims of perfectly avoidable crimes.
The truth is not merely inconvenient, it was predictable (and indeed predicted) years ago, not through any magical crystal glass, but though the process of simple commonsense.
Haphazard immigration policies inevitably produce disaster. When large numbers of people arrive en masse into a culture very different from their own, they often tend not to adopt the values and customs of the host nation, but rather, to isolate themselves into enclaves, and then to try to force their alien values upon the host. The more intensely they regard the host population as infidels, the stronger this tendency.
Who did not see this coming? What were they thinking when they opened their borders? When will they be held accountable? How long will voters tolerate these atrocities?
Even though it is late in the game, measures are readily available to reduce the severity and degree of attacks that are presently being planned. If the will is there, if commonsense has not been completely abolished, then some degree of prevention can still occur.
The first step is to immediately reduce immigration from certain specific Islamist nations, allowing only the most thoroughly screened individuals to enter, and only if their entry serves the purpose of the destination state. The risk-to-reward ratio must be the primary consideration.
Next, identify any resident who has recently traveled to the Middle East. If they have been trained as terrorists, they should be immediately arrested and deported. How will we know for sure who has been trained? Err on the side of saving lives. The screams and protests of those who object must be ignored.
The next step is to recognize that terrorists use large networks of supporters, enablers and sympathizers. The members of these networks are accomplices to murder. Identifying them is difficult and tricky, but must be done aggressively. Deport them. Again, err on the side of saving lives.
Finally, use forceful means to ensure that all immigrants, including citizens born in country from immigrant parents, are expeditiously enculturated into the host nation. First and foremost, this means breaking up the enclaves, dispersing the immigrants, and insisting that they learn the local language. It must go further. Immigrants must dress as the natives dress, practice the local customs, and thoroughly respect the rights of anyone and everyone to disagree with them— for example, no wife beating, no honor killings, no groping of women on the street— for starters. Whenever there is evidence that immigrants are not cooperating, especially with law enforcement, they should be immediately deported. Continue to err on the side of saving lives.
In short, the mistaken policies of the past need to be compensated for by measures considered extreme by many. The alternative is the extreme measure of enabling terrorist attacks to continue, condemning to death hundreds of future victims, and threatening the existence of the nation states that allowed these terrorists in to begin with.
An ounce of prevention would have been worth a pound of cure, but since that was not done, the bitter medicine of draconian policies has become the necessary and only cure.
