There is a joke about two politicians who were discussing an issue. One of them says, “All right, you caught me. I admit it. I’m lying, but hear me out.”
Another joke about Barack Obama is that, as a young boy, his mother caught him stealing cookies, with his hand stuck in the cookie jar. Obama told his mother, “I don’t know who has been stealing the cookies, but I assure you that I will fully investigate myself, and if I have done anything dishonest, I will . . . . (blah blah blah).”
IRS Commissioner John Koskinen is among the many contortionists who have frustrated all attempts to get answers to the IRS scandal. His replies to questions asked by congress are so ludicrous that he has openly been accused of lying.
Here is an example of Koskinen’s confrontation with congress, followed by my suggestion for Democrats.
[Begin excerpt from Fox News]
“This is unbelievable,” Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., angrily told IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. “That’s your problem. Nobody believes you.”
Koskinen responded, “I have a long career. That’s the first time anyone’s said I don’t believe you.”
“I don’t believe you,” Ryan shot back again.
Koskinen set a defiant tone during his testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee, telling lawmakers he felt no need for the agency to apologize amid accusations of a cover-up in the targeting scandal of conservative groups.
Here is my suggestion to Democrats. Stop telling lies. At the very least, stop telling open, bald-faced lies that nobody believes. The old adage does not apply here. It is not always true that if you tell a lie big enough, and repeat it often enough, people will believe it. In this case, you just make people laugh, and if you keep it up, you make them angry, and if you still keep it up, you face the risk that they will take action.
Instead, here is what Koskinen should say.
“Ha ha. You’re darn right we targeted conservative groups to deny them their First Amendment rights. Why shouldn’t we? There’s not a thing you can do about it. The White House ordered the targeting, the attorney general directed it, and the IRS executed it. So what are you going to do, big man? Hold hearings? Ha ha. Issue subpoenas? Ha ha. Find us in contempt of congress? At least, you got that part right. We have nothing butcontempt for congress. So go ahead. Do whatever you wish, but nothing is going to happen, not to me, not to Lois Lerner, and certainly nothing to Obama. Nothing. You bozos have no power. What’s that? You’re going to the American people? And who are they? They are the same bozos who twice elected a guy to the oval office who has never so much as had a newspaper route. They are the same people who know every celebrity’s waist size, but have no clue as to what are the three branches of government. They are either too busy at work, or too dependent on collecting a government check, to read a newspaper or watch a newscast. And even if they do, ninety percent of journalists self-identify as liberal or progressive. They will report only what we tell them to report. The American people don’t know. They don’t care. And even among those who do watch the news, half of them will chant, FOX LIES, FOX LIES, until they drown you out. You Republicans are pathetic. Even if you take control of the senate, half of you are RINO lackeys who will compromise away until there is nothing left to give away.
“So go ahead. Ask your questions. I’ll just keep on lying. So hear me out…
