A Somber Salute

On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to our fallen, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, for the cause of liberty and the blessings of democracy in the near and far corners of the world.

We also pause to honor those who presently wear the uniform with dignity and who serve our nation, fearlessly and steadfastly.

As we celebrate this holiday, let us take a moment to remember … and appreciate the sacrifices by our servicemen, women and their families.

We are privileged to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave, courtesy of our Founders, our Constitution and those willing to lay down their lives to protect our freedom.

The Sentinel’s Creed

My dedication to this sacred duty

is total and whole-hearted.

In the responsibility bestowed on me

never will I falter.

And with dignity and perseverance

my standard will remain perfection.

Through the years of diligence and praise

and the discomfort of the elements,

I will walk my tour in humble reverence

to the best of my ability.

It is he who commands the respect I protect,

his bravery that made us so proud.

Surrounded by well meaning crowds by day,

alone in the thoughtful peace of night,

this soldier will in honored glory rest

under my eternal vigilance.
