In Search of a Leader

by Robert Arvay

In ancient Greece, there was a man named Diogenes who walked about in broad daylight carrying a lamp. When asked about this, he replied that he was searching for an honest man.

Today, we are carrying our figurative lamps seeking for a leader who is not only honest, but also, competent, courageous, and accomplished.

Looking down the line of nine, that is, the nine announced candidates for the Republican nomination; I find none who have ALL of the necessary qualities of a great leader.

And make no mistake about it. A good leader will not do. Good is simply not good enough. The problems this nation faces are monumental. (Whenever I begin to list them, the list gets very long, and I get very depressed.)

In times of crisis such as these, a single serious flaw in a president can be the undoing of the nation, as the following well known rhyme illustrates…

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost.

For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.

For want of a horse, the rider was lost.

For want of a rider, the battle was lost.

For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost.

And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

We need more than a “good” leader. We need a GREAT leader, another George Washington, another Ronald Reagan, someone whose qualities overshadow any human weaknesses they may have.

Frankly, even though ALL of the formal candidates are better than Obama, that does not mean that ANY of them can do the job that we need done.

Sarah Palin has set the bar very high as to what is really needed in a president, and NONE of the announced candidates measures up. Only she does.

If the ship is to run aground and break apart, whom would you desire at the helm? Should the blame fall upon your worst enemy, or your best friend? Frankly, I would not wish that fate upon my best friend.

I will probably vote for whomever Sarah Palin endorses, but if I waver at the last moment, I may just write in her name on the ballot.

Some say that in doing so, my vote will be wasted. I disagree. But even if it is wasted, at least my lamp will not.

  1. Good to know you would help re-elect the nobama. You obviously haven't done your homework, or you would not make the statement, "Today, we are carrying our figurative lamps seeking for a leader who is not only honest, but also, competent, courageous, and accomplished.Looking down the line of nine, that is, the nine announced candidates for the Republican nomination; I find none who have ALL of the necessary qualities of a great leader."I love Sarah Palin, but she serves her country best by being an outspoken cheerleader for this country. But, you sir, with your statement about a write-in candidate are exactly what Obama lovers are hoping for.

  2. I posted this comment on the FB TBP and want to make sure that as many people as possible have an opportunity to read it. I never have voted the party line; but, am afraid that I will have no choice at this time. I refuse to write in. If I did. It would be Sarah Palin. However, I can't do that because that would put another vote in The Messiah's coffers. Harv, as I've said before, I don't intend to lie down and am ready to do anything within my power to regain control of my life and that of my compatriots. I must admit that in this particular election, more than any other, I have to turn it over to God and ask for guidance to make the best choice. It is such a travesty that our system of government has deteriorated to such a degree. I still believe in my country and have faith that with the Lord's help and the willigness of myself and others to relinquish personal agendas, we can win the campaign to regain America. I am reading Future Shock by Aldous Huxley again. Although the message, for the most part, is very bleak and depressing, there are many suggestions that can help us to survive these trying times. To reiterate the mantra of the 2008 campaign, but with a totally different tenor, "yes we can". We are all here fur the same basic purpose – to help each other bear life's burdens and achieve a modicum of peace, happiness and prosperity. Gpd Bless us all in our quest to recover and reclaim our right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  3. I did say that I will probably vote for whomever Sarah endorses. I stand by that. I also stand by the rest of what I said. To be sure, Obama will run America into the ground. But do you honestly think that an Obama twin by the name of Mitt Romney or another RINO would not ALSO run the nation into ruin? If you think that, then perhaps you need to polish your lamp.
