America’s Economic Armageddon: the Perfect Storm

by Sandy Stringfellow

One of my favorite books was written by Milton and Rose Friedman, and is titled “Free to Choose.” It was the offspring of Friedman’s “Capitalism and Freedom,” first published in 1962, and a T.V. series shown on PBS in 1980, also titled “Free to Choose.”

William F. Buckley, Jr., the acknowledged father of modern Conservatism, wrote one of the accolades promoting this very readable and critically important book:

“This new book by Milton Friedman is a mother-lode of economic and social wisdom.  I cannot imagine how, without taking heed of it and its councils, we can proceed as free men and women into the next century.  Nor is it conceivable that, if we abide by this wisdom, we could fail…An important, shrewd, omni-competent readable guide to reasoned thought for those who choose to be free.”

Ronald Reagan summed up his recommendation in one word: “Superb.”

Reagan understood Capitalism and why our free market economic system is thus forever connected to civil society and American exceptionalness.

Without Capitalism and free markets, there is no civil society; under any other economic system America would never have been as prosperous – a fact readily verifiable through a study of human history.

It is interesting to contrast the “reasoned thought” of Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, Jr., Mark Levin and many other modern thinkers, to what passes for “reasoned thought” on today’s news.

I recently listened to a news broadcast wherein Warren Buffet, a multi-billionaire of considerable fame, offered his own brand of “reasoned thought” on economic wisdom as it pertains to the current health of our American economy.

Buffet said he was “bullish” on the economy, and that we’re not going to have a double-dip recession. How reassuring.

Mr. Buffet, if I may be so bold, your propensity for accumulating personal wealth is not impetus enough to blind those of us paying attention to your glaring disingenuousness; a thought I suspect you have entertained.

Buffet’s implication is that we are well on the way out of recession, as we glide smoothly down a metaphorical highway of recovery in a ’63 Cadillac.

Meanwhile, we have approximately 10 million people receiving unemployment benefits, and roughly 40 million receiving food stamps, while mouthpieces from King Barry’s administration speak of a “new norm” for unemployment being around ten percent.

One in six Americans are now on the government dole, while the average government employee is paid twice as much as a comparable worker in the private sector.

In point of fact, we won’t be leaving the worst recession since the Great Depression anytime soon, with our U-6 unemployment rate hovering around seventeen percent, economic expansion of around two percent, falling home values, a quashed housing market where one in three home sales today is either a “short sale” or a foreclosure, punishing taxation (personal and corporate), deficit spending that defies comprehension, declining private sector wages and benefits, rising government sector wages and benefits, rising inflation, a Federal Reserve un-audited and apparently determined to crash the dollar, nationalization of private industries, a self-destructive energy policy, EPA fascism, open borders and illegal immigration, destruction of our food supply through ethanol subsidies, agriculture and farm subsidies, over-regulation, welfare subsidies, and let’s not forget the looming commercial real estate bubble.

The illegal immigration crisis alone is enough to eventually bring America to her knees, since desire on the part of a vast majority of illegal immigrants to learn our language, our customs, and to embrace our uniquely American history and culture does not exist.

We no longer have a “melting pot”; only the balkanization of America.

Milton Friedman has warned us specifically and repeatedly over time of the devastating effects an “open border” immigration policy would wreak upon the entitlement society we’ve allowed, as citizens, to be built under both Democrat and Republican administrations.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re not leaving the recession, we’re heading for a depression; an eventuality that becomes more apparent and inevitable with each passing day.

King Barry’s unique brand of “negative leadership” is having the desired effect; paralysis of our American economic engine of Capitalism, coupled with a brazen level of government intrusion and violations of our civil liberties specifically designed to suppress individualism and intimidate Americans’ into submission, resulting in acquiescence to governmental regulation and control over every aspect of our lives.

Consider the “Kabuki Theater” of contrived and completely ineffective air travel security measures being crammed down our throats in the same manner as nationalized healthcare and the financial reform bill, in addition to on-going legislative efforts (amnesty for illegal immigrants, cap and trade) and executive orders that continue to openly violate our Constitution and defy the will of the American people.

If “air travel security” was of legitimate concern, passengers would be “profiled”, as is the practice in Israel, a country that lives on a “war footing” and where they have an impressive record of success.

Israel actually interdicts the “terrorists” by identifying the likely suspects of “terrorism” through profiling.  They can not afford the indulgence of “political correctness” in their national security equation.  In fact, neither can America, yet it permeates every aspect of our lives.

Conversely in America, the incompetent TSA, guided by the incompetent Janet “Gestapo” Napolitano and led by King Barry, looks for “bombs” instead of the “bombers”, as they grope babies, children, the elderly, the infirm, the medically challenged, and further the spread of disease, infestation, and quite conceivably pestilence (CGW attack) through reckless disregard of standard hygienic procedure.

Without a doubt, King Barry is no champion of Liberty.  Rather, he is an enabler and proponent of Tyranny; having long ago embraced a Marxist ideology, he is a prefect puppet for the wealthy and maniacal destroyer of both civil liberties and entire national economies: George Soros.

It was Karl Marx who sought the elimination of the bourgeois, or “middle class”, as does George Soros, King Barry, and his Czars; acting with the arrogant detachment and hubris of Feudal Lords with unlimited power to restructure a civil society they neither understand nor appreciate.

King Barry spent a considerable portion of his youth being raised by his maternal grandparents in Hawaii, living a pampered upscale life within a sheltered environment of “white liberal guilt.”

An only child of bi-racial parents, he was abandoned early on by his father, an avowed Communist who returned to Kenya, and later by his mother, also a Communist.

Young Barry was insecure, as one may expect, and sought approval through acceptance of influences that brought praise and affirmation from his mother and her boyfriend Frank Marshall Davis; a devotee of Karl Marx, as well as being a Russian foreign agent.

This pattern of behavior from his early years continued in college, where he was introduced to like-minded students and professors for whom Karl Marx was an intellectual icon, and culminated in his twenty year-long relationship with Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who preached sermons based on Black Liberation Theology at his church in Chicago.

So it should come as no surprise that King Barry has quite intentionally buried our nation in debt, as well as increased the level of government involvement and intrusion into our economic and personal affairs to an unprecedented degree, creating a fiscal burden for our children’s children that can only be described as “generational theft.”

Our monetary system, the very foundation of our civil society, is ultimately built and based on trust.  The more government inserts and injects itself into our economy, the less trust people have in the system; not just in America, but around the world.

Only Capitalism and free markets, coupled with property ownership rights and the rule of law, can nurture the fiscal stability that comes from what Adam Smith called Capitalism’s “invisible hand”; the natural state of people choosing to act in their own best interests.

Our government can fabricate fiat currency out of thin air and invent innovative methods with which to misrepresent our balance sheet, but our government can not create wealth; therefore, our government can not generate or establish jobs that contribute to the creation of wealth without functioning in a patently un-Constitutional manner. This has, to the great detriment of our nation, regrettably become typical governmental behavior.

Government-created jobs only squander and destroy wealth, as historical and statistical analyses illustrate with heart-breaking clarity.  The reason for this is simple: our government’s only source of revenue is from the taxpayers; American citizens that do work to create goods and services, and thus create wealth from the private sector based on their individual choices in matters of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Somebody may want to clue Warren Buffet that, although he’s not affected by it, in the real world we won’t be coming out of our current recession anytime soon.

We’re still in it, and we’re going to continue to be “in it,” until our imperial federal government lifts its jackboot of un-Constitutional suppression off the neck of our free enterprise market system of Capitalism, individual Liberty, and our God-given right to remain “Free to Choose.”

  1. Regrettably, only the lower echelon of our society recognizes the deceitful, iniquitous corruption that completely disregards our Constitution and drives our economy toward total collapse. The people like Warren Buffet, who are not affected by the current recession or are postured to ignore it, are able to continue to delude themselves and convince others (through the rhetoric of King Barry) that the economy is improving and continue enjoying "the good life" without acknowledging the annihilation of this Great Nation. If we persist in allowing government decisions that endow it with more and more power to rule our lives, we will no longer be "Free to Choose".

  2. @Ginny — your point re. Warren Buffet is on target; the less than 1% of the uber-wealthy are so disconnected with the realities of the other 99%. They are really clueless about economic issues that pertain to the lives of an average American, so it's easy for them to spew their ideology — they are ignorant and coddled.

  3. Very good article. I was reading some comments recently about the European Union and how it is unraveliling. It is no surprise to me that is became unraveled. The Europeans should have known better. The USSR had just failed. Communism, no matter what label you dress it up with, does not work. Margaret Thatcher knew this. She said, "the problem With Socialism (Communism, Marxism, etc.) is that it runs out of other people's money to Squander on Government and Government Programs." And, now this Communist Experiment is being carried out in the USA. The NAFTA, CAFTA and other Agreements are the First Paths of a North American Communist Union, and that is why the Communists in Our Government are not doing anything about the Open Borders and the 20 to 30 million illegals alread in this coutnry. The government even lies about the number of Illegal Invaders, they keep using the 12 million illegal figures for the past 15 years. This is but one of many lies being perpetrated by our own government as a way to Minimize The Problem that is looming. And not only are the EU Communist monetary policies not working, neither are their politically correct, cultural diversity, sexual perversity, and other social engineering projects working. And, sadly, the USA has not paid any attention to any of these realities of communism which we have been emulating for the past 70 years, and especially during the past 45 years, beginning with LBJ and his so-called Great Society Welfare Programs, the nationalization of public education, etc. To date, LBJ's Failed and Failing Great Society Welfare Program has squandered over 13 trillion dollars, which is also about what the current national debt is, and instead of reducing the ranks of those identified as living in poverty, it has increased the ranks by tens of millions, and in doing so, it has also destroyed the American Work Ethic in the poor, has destroyed the poor family structure which used to consist of a married couple of the opposite sex. In 1966, over 80 percent of what was considered poor children, lived with 2 parents of the opposite sex who were married, and one or both parents had a job. Today, less than 20 percent of poor children live with 2 married parents who work. The other 80 plus percent of poor children live with single parents, with foster parents, in juvenile facilities, with this or that relative who will take them in, or with a single parent, usually a young female who is on welfare, who is not educated and is functionally illiterate, which almost insures that the children she conceives and delivers into the world are going to repeat the cycle of illiteracy and welfare dependency, and we are going to continue to provide the children who grow up poor, uneducated, lacking a work ethic, lacking in responsibility for one's self, lacking gratitude, lacking self respect, lacking respect for others, lacking respect for resources and growing more and more self-centered, arrogant, ungrateful and demanding as their entitlement mentality grows as it is cultivated by the politicians on the left (Democrats especially). Obama's speeches are aimed at creating, cultivating and nurturing an entitlement mentality as he preaches and teaches his Jeremiah Wright Sermons of Class Envy, Class Hatred, and hatred for the rich, successful and powerful, as he paints his racial picture of the poor black man who has lived under the White Man's thumb. This sort of nonsense is being taught and spread through political speeches, TV shows, Movies, by public education teachers and even by comedians. All these things are being fostered and taught in the USA, as we have emulated these same things that have been carried out in Communist Europe which has now brought them to their knees financially. But, before the Europeans were brought down financially, they had already destroyed their spiritual beliefs, their social norms, their work ethics, etc. through Social Engineering by the Socialist States. The Europeans were building their "Utopian" Communist States with political correctness, cultural diversity, dependency on the welfare state, socialized healthcare, free drug laws, open sexual diversity, etc. as their countries piled up debt and were dependent on the USA for their defense. The Soviet Union fell due to it's excessive costs to operate it, and at the same time, the other European Nations quickly banned together and tried to replicate the Soviet Totalitarian Communist Model, but without the Military Might to enforce it nor the funds to fund it. And, sadly, we, the USA, were also replicating the Huge Worthless Bureaucracy of the Soviet Communist State and with the election of President Obama backed by a Communist Congress of the USA, he and this congress have used Totalitarainism to Shove Health Care, Cap And Trade, Open Borders, Union Bailouts, Communist Nation Bailouts, etc. down our throats. And, also like the European Socialists (Communists), now Obama and his regime are trying to Pay For The Expansion of the Welfare State Stranglehold on We The People, by cutting and destroying the Military. Remember, the only way that the Europeans were able to create such a huge Welfare State was because they were not Providing For Their Own National Defenses. We, the USA were providing their National Defenses, and continue to do so. Now, who is going to Protect and defend the USA and Europe if we allow Obama and those of his communist ilk, to destroy our Military in favor of building a Bigger Welfare State? Without our powerful defense forces, we will not survive as a nation. Once we are perceived to be powerless and defenseless, we will be overtaken by our enemies from within and out.Wake up America, "If it sounds too good to be true, it truly is." There is no such thing as a "Free Lunch". Somebody has to pay for that Free Lunch. And, the Rent Comes Due or as old Jeremiah Wright said, "The Chickens come home to Roost." And, in this case, the European Communist Model which they called the European Union is crashing and that is their Chickens coming home to roost, and the USA is right behind them in failure if we do not Reverse This Course NOW!!!!Obama was and is very fond of going to foreign nations and Trashing This Nation as being a bunch of Gun Toting, Bible Toting, Backward Hicks as he courts perverts, communists, dictators and kings who have been protected by this Nation's Military which is made up mostly of Gun Toting, Bible Toting, Backward Hicks, Blue Collar Workers, Shop Owners and even many sons and daughters of the rich and famous.Obama is an ingrate and an ill-educated man with an attitude and a serious mental disorder. But, Obama is not doing this on his own. Many in our country, especially many in our congress, are of the same ilk. And, the ungrateful attitudes and ignorance has been planted, cultivated and nurtured by a public education system that was hijacked by the Federal Government beginning with LBJ in the mid 1960's and has to date taken us down the road of institutionalized ignorance, dumbing down and brainwashing. And, the cumulative effect of that institutionalized ignorance, dumbing down and brainwashing has resulted in the mess we find ourselves to as a nation. In 1966, we had the #3 best public education system in the world, and today, we are at #28 in the world, and trail many banana republics in literacy. There is a Direct Correlation between The Nationalization of Public Education and the Destruction of Public Education and Literacy in the USA. But, what makes it even worse, is that these same functionally illiterate citizens have also been brainwashed into believing the Communist Propaganda that has been taught to our kids that has Trashed The USA and Western Civilization and Christianity generally. These were the same techniques and teachings that were being taught in the Old Soviet Union and also in other Socialist Countries and Monarchies around the world. There already Existed USA Envy around The World, and USA
hatred around the world that was being taught by our enemies. What happened in the USA is that our Home Grown Subversives took over Hollywood, Government and The Schools, and they also write most of our textbooks today.Wake up America. Our problems are very serious and grave, but no unsolvable. It starts with taking our own Minds Back, and Taking Our Own Kids Back and Taking Our Schools back and Controlling Them Locally, and if you are waiting for permission from the government to do it, it will never happen. You have to do it yourselves. After all, who is responsible for the safety, education and well being of your children??? Of course, You, The Parent is responsible. So, if you have children in public schools, ban together with parents in your community and take your schools back and demand that they be Taught Academics Without Political Prejudice and Brainwashing, and leave Parenting, Spiritual Teachings, and other private matters to families. Public schools are only responsible for teaching kids how to Read, Write, Do Arithmetic and The History of this nation and Good Citizenship, and not to teach them Cultural Diversity, Sexual Perversity, and other Politically Correct Nonsense. Kids need to have their minds developed to be able to make rational decisions and to know how to develop reason and logic, and not be told What To Think but How To Think and Make Rational Decisions for themselves.
