“Complacency is a state of mind that exists only in retrospective: it has to be shattered before being ascertained.” Vladimir Nabokov
“The world is a dangerous place. Not because of the people who are evil; but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” Albert Einstein
“It’s not a very big step from contentment to complacency.” Simone de Beauvoir
After more than 10 years of recalling the worst disaster that ever threatened to annihilate our great nation, we have gradually migrated toward smug satisfaction with our surroundings and become unconcerned about any imminent dangers. The embers of September 11, 2001 are extinguished, leaving only the memory of the symbol of affluence and luxury loathed by our enemies – The World Trade Center.
Although seemingly unrelated, the upcoming mid-term elections involve subtle perils that have the capacity to complete the destruction begun by the current administration. We The People are being lulled into a false sense of security by the silver-tongued politicians who are willing to sell their souls to the devil for our votes.
The pundits forewarn that the electorate is being misled to believe that the Liberals are being wiped-out by the Conservative candidates. Do you sense a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Diminishing the threat of Conservative challengers allows the Dems to forge ahead unnoticed and uncontrolled. At this time in our history, we have no latitude for complacency. We either fight to reverse the direction of our government or watch our hard-fought-for democracy continue to decline and vanish.
On November 2, 2010, remember what our votes mean to the future of our great nation. God Bless America.
